Farm Enterprises Ltd, KFE,
was established in 1992 by German investors Kim and Simone Axmann (both
agronomists). The company consists of two farms, Mbuyuni Farm, and since
2002 Wami River Farm. Both farms together comprise 600ha of which approximately
150ha are under cultivation. The rest of the land is kept as ecological
reserves. Mbuyuni Farm is named after the many wild baobabs growing
on it.
Since 2003 the company also closely cooperates with a small farmers group, the Voumike Organic Farmers Group
.
For
more than 10 years KFE has been growing and processing according to organic
principles. Inspection and certification according to EU-, Biosuisse-
(Switzerland), and NOP- (USA) guidelines have been carried out by the
Institute of Marketecology (IMO) in Switzerland.
The
former bush land of both farms located on the foothills of the Uluguru
Mountains in Morogoro Region have been transformed to green oasis
where not only high quality certified organic products for the health
food markets in Europe and the USA are produced, but where ecological
principles are consequently put into practice. More than 30.000 trees
have been planted, indigenous as well as exotic (mainly neem) and all fields
are surrounded by strips of natural vegetation for wind protection
and as a refuge for birds and other wildlife. The photo
on the right shows a field of lemongrass bordered by neem trees,
out of which a natural fertiliser and insecticide can be produced.
In order to comply with the high quality standards for herbal teas and spices all products are processed by KFE. Besides strict hygienic measures and regular quality control, samples of every export consignment are taken and analysed by recognised laboratories in Europe. The photo on the right shows women preparing fresh chillies for processing.
All products are exported by sea containers to Europe and the USA. KFE´s main products are:
- hibiscus tea
- lemongrass tea
- chilli (whole and ground)
- paprika (powder and flakes)
- neem leaves (whole and ground), neem bark powder, neem flowers. Interested importers, please contact us!
Other products offered by the company are tropical spices such as ginger, pepper, turmeric, lime peels, as well as fresh chillies and lemongrass sticks.
As KFE´s partner in Germany, Karibu Trade imports all consignments into Germany and further sells the goods to organic whole sellers all over Europe.
